This document will show you how to create "filtering rules" in Outlook Express. This will allow Outlook Express to automatically send certain types of e-mail into folders that you can choose. This may be useful to help you to organize your mail by certain topics or senders and be able to check a single folder for all e-mails related to a certain subject such as School. | Launch Outlook Express and on the menu bar select "Tools", "Message Rules", "Mail". |
Select which e-mail condition to which you wish to apply the new rule. This example will direct all e-mails containing the word "class" in the subject to be sent to a folder named "School". Click in the box next to the line "Where the Subject line contains specific words" Next click in the box next to the line "Move it to the specified folder".
Next click on the underlined "contains specific words" and type the word or phrase to be used in the text box. In this example type "class" and click on the "Add" button. Then click "OK".
Next click on the underlined word "specified" to designate the folder which will receive the message. The following box will appear.Click on the "New Folder" button to create a new folder that will be named "School" in this example. Type the name of the new folder in the text box and click "OK" twice.
Name your new rule "School e-mail" and then click "OK" twice. Your Outlook Express will now automatically place all e-mail messages containing the word "class" into the "School" folder.
